“I can’t put into words what it means to have a job that accommodates me. It’s a feeling that drives me to try to better myself at what I need to do each and every day.”

Robbie Mikels struggled to maintain employment without the proper support to accommodate his disability. Despite earning his bachelor’s degree and having previous job experience, he found the workplace to be extremely challenging.

Robbie connected to the Transitions to Work program, which trains young adults with disabilities and helps them develop job skills to launch their careers. Through the program, Robbie received classroom instruction and skills training at the CVS Regional Learning Center at JVS, enabling him to gain hands-on customer service skills in a retail environment and support around finding a job that was a good match for him.

Through a combination of hard work and assistance from staff, Robbie secured employment as a host at the Legal Sea Foods in Park Plaza. He has thrived in the position, and was recently given the responsibility of training new employees. Robbie is grateful to Transitions staff for their help and excited to work for an accommodating employer in a job that he loves.
