Part-Time/Full-Time Instructor

Jewish Vocational Service, a non-profit workforce development organization, seeks an experienced Instructor for our Business Services Division. Under the direction of the Lead Instructor, the Instructor in our English for Advancement program develops and modifies contextualized curriculum and daily lesson plans for English classes with the goal of supporting participants to get a new or better job. The Instructor delivers training to participants, evaluates progress and skill attainment of individual participants on a scheduled basis, tracks outcomes, and attends strategic team meetings both in the Business Services department as well as agency wide meetings. The Instructor works collaboratively with each member of the Business Services and Career Coaching team to assist students in obtaining the skills needed to find and secure employment. This position will be located at our community partner location in Lowell, MA. This position can be either part-time (20-hours per week, benefits included) or full-time.

The ideal candidate will have:

• BS/BA in Education or related field, TESOL Certificate and/or Masters preferred

Welcome Center Program Assistant

Jewish Vocational Service, a non-profit workforce development organization, seeks a full-time Program Assistant. As the first impression to the community, including customers, clients, visitors, funders, donors and Board Members, the Program Assistant delivers customer service at the highest level to all entering the Welcome Center and Student Support Center.  Through this welcome, the Program Assistant establishes a positive, welcoming, respectful environment and delivers efficient and effective direction and assistance for all.  The Program Assistant performs work that requires thorough knowledge of all JVS programming, leading to an ability to assist clients, understand their needs, obtain  information and direct them to the appropriate staff member or program area in addition to assisting in programmatic tasks and projects. Working with clients includes face to face, over the phone, and in some cases through providing written materials which requires maintaining up-to-date knowledge of all JVS programming. Other functions include ordering supplies and equipment, data entry of customer information into a database, administrative services to administration and program areas, filing, room set up, flyer creation and distribution, email follow up with clients, and keeping the Welcome Center clean, organized, and professional. This position reports to the Manager of Welcome Center and the HR Administrator. 

The ideal candidate will have:

• High school diploma/GED equivalency and 3 plus years of directly-related experience 
• 2-3  years’ customer service and front-desk experience 
• 2-3 years’ work experience in a non-profit organization
• Ability to multi-task; punctuality in the workplace and among transitional tasks is a must
• Bi-lingual a must; Spanish and Haitian Creole highly preferred 
• Excellent customer service skills with ability to interact with and assist a multi-cultural customer base, including those with low levels of English proficiency and limited educational backgrounds
• Professional appearance and service delivery with exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

JVS, a non-profit, non-sectarian agency, is seeking a Post-Employment Career Coach, responsible for providing career advancement services and ensuring long-term job retention. The Career Coach provides high quality career counseling, training, and job retention assistance to designated job seekers. With each participant, the Career Coach provides supportive services including updating resumes, interview preparation, job search assistance and job coaching as needed. The Career Coach initiates and sustains collaborative working relationships with a variety of businesses in the greater Boston area and beyond. This individual must have flexibility to travel between various cities in order to serve participants in the Greater Boston, North Shore and South Shore areas. This individual must have a strong knowledge of issues related to individuals with significant barriers to employment, as well as experience working with people from diverse backgrounds. The Career Coach is part of a larger JVS team that supports employment, training and education needs of clients and employers. This position is based at JVS’s main office and requires frequent travel to offsite locations.

The ideal candidate will have:

• 1-3 years of experience in workforce development or related field required
• 1-3 years of experience working with individuals with barriers to employment strongly desired
• Strong Microsoft Office Suite skills required
• Experience in marketing and outreach desired

ESOL Workplace Instructors - Hourly, Part-time, Full-time

JVS Boston, a workforce development organization, is seeking experienced ESOL Instructors to deliver customized ESOL courses for job seekers and entry level employees.  The ESOL Instructor will assist in assessing the training needs of participants and will provide the education needed to move individuals forward on their career pathways. The ESOL Instructor is part of a larger JVS team, all of whom are supporting the education, training, and employment needs of clients and employers.  Hourly, part-time, full-time, and lead positions are available.  

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

ServSafe Instructor

Jewish Vocational Service, a non-profit workforce development organization, seeks a ServSafe Instructor. The JVS Business Services ServSafe Instructor’s charge is to implement classroom instruction that will prepare the employee for ServSafe food safety and protection certification exams so that they are able to grow within their organization. The Business Services ServSafe Instructor is part of a larger JVS team, all of whom are supporting the education, training, and employment needs of clients and employers. The ServSafe Instructor works collaboratively with each member of the Business Services team to assist students in obtaining the skills needed to successfully pass their food safety and protection-related exams and do their current jobs, as well as to upgrade their skills in order to move up in their career. Courses are delivered to working adults at JVS or at various employer sites.

Under the direction of the Business Services Program Manager, the ServSafe Instructor uses the curriculum and daily lesson plans provided for food safety and protection training programs, delivers training to participants, proctors the exams, tracks outcomes, creates documents for submission to their supervisor, and meets with their supervisor before and after each training session.

The ideal candidate will have:
• BS or BA in Education or related field
• Spanish language skills required
• One or more years of teaching or training experience with adults preferred
• One or more years of restaurant experience preferred

All Business Services ServSafe Instructors will be teaching classes either at JVS or on site at area employers. Most sites are accessible by T, with additional contracts in the Greater Boston Area. At times there are conference rooms, but there are also sites where we are working within a store, café, or other untraditional teaching environment.

Jewish Vocational Service (JVS) a non-profit workforce development organization, seeks a Program Associate in Skills Training to aid the team in various areas throughout the day.The position comprises the following distinct elements:

Lunch Bunch Coordinator:  During lunchtime, sit with limited English speakers and encourage them to make small talk about their weekends, families, home countries, etc. to prepare them for this experience in the workplace.  Explain relevant boundaries around sharing in the workplace. Introduce relevant vocabulary and correct grammar mistakes.  Enforce English-only workplace expectations. Create and implement games and activities that focus on improving students’ English skills. Provide individualized attention to students requesting and showing signs of needing additional assistance (i.e. class work, homework, study skills).

Assistant Computer and ESOL Instructor: Assist and teach limited English speakers basic computer skills, such as keyboarding, identifying windows and the task bar, and creating documents. Create e-mail accounts and teach students how to send e-mail attachments. Demonstrate basic Internet searching and the skills needed to complete an online job application. Develop exercises and activities to teach students to create a basic spreadsheet using Excel with a simple formula. As a VESL speaking and listening activities leader, lead class in pronunciation, reading, and comprehension exercises. 

Job Search Club Coordinator:  Assist students in the job application process by searching job postings for relevant positions, writing resumes and cover letters and reviewing for accuracy.  Assist students in completing online and written job applications. Practice interview questions and test-taking strategies, and coach students in making follow-up phone calls to employers. Contact graduates to collect and enter employment data into data system and communicate to team members. Prepare students for CNA state exam by familiarizing them with the clinical skills required and creating and leading games and activities. Assist and answer questions as students demonstrate skills. Find, compile, and distribute sample CNA state exam practice questions. 

JTA Administrative Support: Support Coalition by updating membership database and making follow-up phone calls.

The ideal candidate will have:
• Demonstrated ability to organize, direct, guide, and instruct individuals   
• Strong knowledge of Windows and Microsoft Office Suite 
• Ability to work in a multicultural environment
• Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with a diverse group of clients at all levels of the organization
• Capacity to coordinate, compile, analyze, and compute data
• Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently
