ESOL Workplace Instructors - Hourly, Part-time, Full-time

JVS Boston, a workforce development organization, is seeking experienced ESOL Instructors to deliver customized ESOL courses for job seekers and entry level employees.  The ESOL Instructor will assist in assessing the training needs of participants and will provide the education needed to move individuals forward on their career pathways. The ESOL Instructor is part of a larger JVS team, all of whom are supporting the education, training, and employment needs of clients and employers.  Hourly, part-time, full-time, and lead positions are available.  

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

• 2-3 years of workplace or job readiness ESOL teaching experience preferred
• Wiliness to travel to MBTA accessible sites in the Greater Boston area
• Knowledge of adult learning theory
• Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of clients
• Experience in a workforce development role a plus
• Presentation and facilitation skills

Lead ESOL Instructor- Lawrence

Jewish Vocational Service, a non-profit workforce development organization, seeks a full-time Lead Instructor to be the primary contact and JVS representative at community partner sites where English for Advancement classes are delivered.  They teach one class (9 contact hours) per week, and perform all administrative duties associated with the site.  They develop and modify contextualized curriculum and daily lesson plans for English classes with the goal of supporting participants to get a new or better job, deliver training to participants, evaluate progress and skill attainment of individual participants on a scheduled basis, track outcomes, create documents for submission to the Director, funders or evaluators, and attend strategic team meetings both in the Business Services department as well as agency wide meetings.  They supervise 1-3 Instructors, providing guidance and support around differentiated curriculum development; student engagement, retention, attendance and skill development; and substitute teach classes for the site as needed.  The Lead Instructor works collaboratively with each member of the Business Services and Career Coaching team to assist students in obtaining the skills needed to find and secure employment.  Positions are located in Lawrence locations.   

The ideal candidate will have: 

• 2-3 years of training/teaching experience required
• Supervisory experience a plus
• Knowledge of adult learning theory
• Ability to work with a diverse group of clients

Career Coach Transitions To Work

Jewish Vocational Service seeks a Career Coach Transitions To Work who provides outreach to Transitions to Work program graduates who are beyond their one-year service period and reengages them to provide career advancement services. With each participant, the Career Coach sets individual career goals and provides supportive services including career counseling, resume updating, interview, job search assistance and job coaching as needed.   The Career Coach is responsible for developing strong job leads and job placement assistance to participants.  The Career Coach provides on the job training and pre-employment job readiness skills to program participants. The Career Coach provides trainings and information to employer partners regarding working effectively with individuals with disabilities. The Career Coach will initiate and sustain collaborative working relationships with a variety of businesses in the greater Boston area.  Applies a strong knowledge about issues related to individuals with significant barriers to employment. The Career Coach is part of a larger JVS team that supports employment, training and education needs of clients and employers.

• An understanding of job development and job placement required.
• Experience in marketing and outreach strongly desired.

Jewish Vocational Service, a non-profit workforce development organization, seeks a full-time, experienced Career Navigator with our Secure Jobs Partnership. Secure Jobs Partnership is a regional collaboration aimed at demonstrating a replicable model for connecting homeless families to career ladder employment and for improving coordination of services among the local housing/homelessness and workforce development systems. The Career Navigator is responsible for developing strong job leads, and providing high quality career counseling and job placement assistance to job seekers referred from our housing project partner. The Career Navigator initiates and sustains collaborative working relationships with a variety of businesses in the greater Boston area to create employment opportunities for clients. This individual must have a strong knowledge about issues related to individuals with significant barriers to employment.

The ideal candidate will have:
• 1-3 years of experience in workforce development or related field required.
• 1-3 years of experience in working with individuals with barriers to employment strongly desired.

The navigator will assist job seekers from diverse backgrounds and levels of experience to conduct successful job searches and obtain employment.

The ideal candidate will have:
• 4 years of experience in the workforce development/career coaching/recruiting field with excellent knowledge of career coaching tools and strategies
• Knowledge of web-based job search resources and techniques required
• Exceptional level of computer/technology proficiency including: ability to complete online job applications, maintain accurate records of services provided in databases, and a high level of proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required
• Experience in marketing and outreach desired

Welcome Center Support Staff

Jewish Vocational Service, a non-profit workforce development organization, seeks a full-time Welcome Center Support Staff to provide all back-up service and support needs for the Welcome Center Operations and the programs it serves. As the first impression to the community and public we serve, including customers, clients, visitors, funders, donors and Board Members, the Welcome Center Support Staff delivers customer service at the highest level to all entering the Welcome Center and Student Support Center. Through this welcome, the Welcome Center Support Staff establishes a positive, welcoming, respectful environment and delivers efficient and effective direction and assistance for all. The Welcome Center Support Staff performs work that requires thorough knowledge of all JVS programming leading to an ability to assist clients, understand their needs, obtain information and direct them to the appropriate staff member or program area in addition to assisting in programmatic tasks and projects. Working with clients includes face to face, over the phone, and in some cases through providing written materials which requires maintaining up-to-date knowledge of all JVS programming, the Welcome Center Support Staff will work closely with employees of JVS at multiple levels. This position reports to the Welcome Center Manager.

The ideal candidate will have:
• 1-2 years’ customer service and receptionist experience required
• 1-2 years’ work experience in a non-profit organization required
• Ability to multi-task; punctuality in the workplace and among transitional tasks is a must
• Bi-lingual a must; Spanish and Haitian Creole highly preferred
• Customer service oriented with ability to interact with and assist a multi-cultural customer base

Part-Time ESOL Instructor – East Boston

JVS, a non-profit workforce development organization, is seeking an experienced ESOL Instructor to deliver customized ESOL courses for job seekers and entry level employees at our East Boston location. Courses are delivered to working adults at various employer sites and to community members seeking to gain employment. This is a part-time, benefitted, 20-hour per week position. Classes are M/W/Th from 6:00-9:00pm in East Boston.

Some sites are accessible by T, with additional contracts in the Greater Boston Area. Access to a reliable vehicle a definite plus and willingness to travel between employer locations is required. At times there are conference rooms, but there are also sites where we are working within a store, café, or other untraditional teaching environment.

Jewish Vocational Service (JVS) a non-profit workforce development organization, seeks a Bilingual Career Navigator for its CareerSolution Department to deliver innovative, customer-focused, and technology-driven career services to job seekers through its one-stop career center. The Career Navigator, in collaboration with the team, will assist job seekers from diverse backgrounds and levels of experience to conduct successful job searches and obtain employment. Specifically, the Career Navigator will issue, monitor, and case-manage training vouchers for eligible customers; develop relationships with area employers to understand staffing needs and place clients in jobs; provide 1:1 career coaching; lead high-quality workshops that incorporate best practices in adult education and training; and integrate and advance the use of technology in the job search and application processes. This position is located at 75 Federal Street, Boston, MA.

The ideal candidate will have
• Bilingual capacity (required, Spanish/English highly preferred)

This individual must have flexibility to travel between various locations, specifically East Boston, in order to serve participants applying for jobs in the greater Boston area. This is an off-site position located in East Boston.

The right candidate will have:
• 1-3 years of experience in workforce development or related field required

• Proficiency in Arabic and/or Spanish highly preferred

Jewish Vocational Service, a non-profit workforce development organization, seeks a ServSafe Instructor. The JVS Business Services ServSafe Instructor’s charge is to implement classroom instruction that will prepare the employee for ServSafe food safety and protection certification exams so that they are able to grow within their organization. The Business Services ServSafe Instructor is part of a larger JVS team, all of whom are supporting the education, training, and employment needs of clients and employers. The ServSafe Instructor works collaboratively with each member of the Business Services team to assist students in obtaining the skills needed to successfully pass their food safety and protection-related exams and do their current jobs, as well as to upgrade their skills in order to move up in their career. Courses are delivered to working adults at JVS or at various employer sites.

Under the direction of the Business Services Program Manager, the ServSafe Instructor uses the curriculum and daily lesson plans provided for food safety and protection training programs, delivers training to participants, proctors the exams, tracks outcomes, creates documents for submission to their supervisor, and meets with their supervisor before and after each training session.

The ideal candidate will have:
• BS or BA in Education or related field
• Spanish language skills required
• One or more years of teaching or training experience with adults preferred
• One or more years of restaurant experience preferred

All Business Services ServSafe Instructors will be teaching classes either at JVS or on site at area employers. Most sites are accessible by T, with additional contracts in the Greater Boston Area. At times there are conference rooms, but there are also sites where we are working within a store, café, or other untraditional teaching environment.

Community Outreach Specialist

JVS, a non-profit, non-sectarian work force development organization, seeks a full-time, experienced Community Outreach Specialist under the direction of the Project Liaison of Pay for Success, this individual conducts outreach and recruitment for the English for Advancement (EFA) program by maintaining collaborative relationships with community partners, government agencies, and other entities to identify and enroll eligible students. As a member of the EFA Team, this individual will also conduct regular, direct student outreach, to include attending community meetings, festivals and faith-based events. Successful candidates must have strong networking, outreach, marketing, and time management capabilities, as well as exceptional communication skills and a strong commitment to the program mission and goals. In particular, candidates must be comfortable outreaching to individuals who speak English as a second language, and being in communities where English is not the dominant language. This employee may also assume a role in providing support to the team through special projects such as coordinating new client assessments in individual and group settings.

The ideal candidate will have:
• Knowledge of community resources in Greater Boston, Lynn, Lawrence, Lowell and/or Brockton, along with web-based resources required
• 1-3 years of experience in community outreach and recruitment or adult basic education strongly preferred
• Excellent phone skills, including willingness to cold call organizations and individuals required
• Strong organizational skills, including creating systems of work and organizing team efforts
• Flexible and adaptable with an ability to generate creative solutions to new problems or concerns
• Ability to work well under pressure, think and work independently and be a problem solver when challenges arise
• Comfortable traveling around the Boston Metro Area using public transportation required
• Bilingual, bi-cultural preferred
• Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with a diverse group of clients and staff at all levels of the organization
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite required
• Associate’s Degree in Communications, Business/Marketing, Education, or related field or 3+ years relevant community experience

Work hours are generally 9-5 Monday through Friday (full-time 35 hours per week). The position is at our 75 Federal Street, Boston location and will also require regular local travel, evening hours and some weekend availability.
