Program Assistant – Education/Bridges to College

Jewish Vocational Service, a non-profit workforce development organization, seeks a full-time Program Assistant. Under the direction of both the Director of Education and the Director of Bridges to College and Careers, the Program Assistant plays a key support role for two departments. Strong organizational skills, excellent computer skills and good communication skills are critical to success. This position requires strong attention to detail and follow through, as well as outstanding customer service skills. The Program Assistant is a part of a larger JVS team, all of whom are supporting the education, training and employment needs of clients and employers. The Program Assistant is responsible for supporting the members of the Education and Bridges to College and Careers teams as they deliver training and education programs. The Program Assistant will be assisting with tracking client outcomes and providing reports to employers and funders. The Program Assistant is an active member of both the Education and Bridges to College and Careers teams, thereby equitably contributing to the teams’ performance goals and working to support the overall mission and philosophy of JVS. The Program Assistant will also provide weekly coverage for the Welcome Center desk and the Student Support Center desk as needed, for a minimum of 4 hours a week.

Part-Time Workplace Instructor – Stavis Seafoods, Boston Seaport District

JVS, a non-profit workforce development organization, is seeking an experienced Workplace Instructor to develop and modify contextualized curriculum and daily lesson plans for academic and/or job skill training programs. This individual will deliver training to participants, evaluate progress and skill attainment of individual participants on a scheduled basis, track outcomes, create documents for submission to their Manager, funders or evaluators, and attend strategic team meetings both in the Business Services department as well as agency wide meetings. The Instructor works collaboratively with each member of the Business Services team to assist students in obtaining the skills needed to successfully do their current jobs, as well as to upgrade their skills in order to move up in their career. Courses are delivered to working adults at various employer sites and to community members seeking to gain employment. This is a part-time, 8-hour per week position. Classes are Tu/Th from 8:00-10:00pm and the instructor will also be paid for 4 hours of class prep time per week (these hours can be flexible). This position is located at Stavis Seafoods, 310 Northern Ave in the Boston Seaport District (free parking available).

The ideal candidate will have:
• 2-3 years of workplace or related training/teaching experience preferred
• knowledge of adult learning theory

Manager of Finance

Jewish Vocational Service, a non-profit workforce development organization, seeks a full-time Manager of Finance who is an organized, ambitious, detail-oriented and self-motivated individual. The Manager of Finance will be responsible for ensuring the JVS monthly closing process is completed accurately and financial statements prepared timely. The Manager of Finance supervises the Accounts Payable Specialist, and is solely responsible for the Accounts Receivables of JVS, including the optimization and coordination of revenue cycle and billing activities. This individual responds quickly and with sound judgment to a variety of situations in a fast-paced environment, handles sensitive information in a professional manner and works with staff at all levels of the organization as well as outside stakeholders. The Manager of Finance will report to the Chief Financial Officer as part of the five-person Finance Department of JVS.

The ideal candidate will have:
• Between 3- 5 years of progressive accounting experience in a nonprofit organization, and with specific experience with nonprofit revenue recognition and monthly closings;
• Minimum of 2 years of staff supervisory experience;
• Meticulous attention to detail with excellent analytical, problem-solving, verbal and written communication skills;
• Excellent organizational and follow-through skills, and responsive to staff, customer, and vendor inquiries;
• Strong work ethic with ability to work independently and in a team environment;
• Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines in a fast-paced work environment;
• Desire to learn, and interest in improving systems and processes;
• Familiarity with nonprofit fund accounting systems; Serenic Navigator a plus;

Jewish Vocational Service, a non-profit workforce development organization, seeks an experienced Instructor for our Business Services Division. Under the direction of the Lead Instructor, the Instructor in our English for Advancement program develops and modifies contextualized curriculum and daily lesson plans for English classes with the goal of supporting participants to get a new or better job. The Instructor delivers training to participants, evaluates progress and skill attainment of individual participants on a scheduled basis, tracks outcomes, and attends strategic team meetings both in the Business Services department as well as agency wide meetings. The Instructor works collaboratively with each member of the Business Services and Career Coaching team to assist students in obtaining the skills needed to find and secure employment. This position will be located at our community partner location in Lowell, MA. This position can be either part-time (20-hours per week, benefits included) or full-time.

JVS, a non-profit, non-sectarian agency, is seeking a Post-Employment Career Coach, responsible for providing career advancement services and ensuring long-term job retention. The Career Coach provides high quality career counseling, training, and job retention assistance to designated job seekers. With each participant, the Career Coach provides supportive services including updating resumes, interview preparation, job search assistance and job coaching as needed. The Career Coach initiates and sustains collaborative working relationships with a variety of businesses in the greater Boston area and beyond. This individual must have flexibility to travel between various cities in order to serve participants in the Greater Boston, North Shore and South Shore areas. This individual must have a strong knowledge of issues related to individuals with significant barriers to employment, as well as experience working with people from diverse backgrounds. The Career Coach is part of a larger JVS team that supports employment, training and education needs of clients and employers. This position is based at JVS’s main office and requires frequent travel to offsite locations.

The ideal candidate will have:

• 1-3 years of experience in workforce development or related field required
• 1-3 years of experience working with individuals with barriers to employment strongly desired
• Strong Microsoft Office Suite skills required
• Experience in marketing and outreach desired
• Proficiency in a language spoken by immigrant participants strongly preferred (Spanish, Arabic, Haitian Creole, or French)

The ideal candidate will have:

Jewish Vocational Service (JVS) a non-profit workforce development organization, seeks a Program Associate in Skills Training to aid the team in various areas throughout the day.The position comprises the following distinct elements:

Lunch Bunch Coordinator:  During lunchtime, sit with limited English speakers and encourage them to make small talk about their weekends, families, home countries, etc. to prepare them for this experience in the workplace.  Explain relevant boundaries around sharing in the workplace. Introduce relevant vocabulary and correct grammar mistakes.  Enforce English-only workplace expectations. Create and implement games and activities that focus on improving students’ English skills. Provide individualized attention to students requesting and showing signs of needing additional assistance (i.e. class work, homework, study skills).

Assistant Computer and ESOL Instructor: Assist and teach limited English speakers basic computer skills, such as keyboarding, identifying windows and the task bar, and creating documents. Create e-mail accounts and teach students how to send e-mail attachments. Demonstrate basic Internet searching and the skills needed to complete an online job application. Develop exercises and activities to teach students to create a basic spreadsheet using Excel with a simple formula. As a VESL speaking and listening activities leader, lead class in pronunciation, reading, and comprehension exercises. 

Job Search Club Coordinator:  Assist students in the job application process by searching job postings for relevant positions, writing resumes and cover letters and reviewing for accuracy.  Assist students in completing online and written job applications. Practice interview questions and test-taking strategies, and coach students in making follow-up phone calls to employers. Contact graduates to collect and enter employment data into data system and communicate to team members. Prepare students for CNA state exam by familiarizing them with the clinical skills required and creating and leading games and activities. Assist and answer questions as students demonstrate skills. Find, compile, and distribute sample CNA state exam practice questions. 

JTA Administrative Support: Support Coalition by updating membership database and making follow-up phone calls.

The ideal candidate will have:
• Demonstrated ability to organize, direct, guide, and instruct individuals   
• Strong knowledge of Windows and Microsoft Office Suite 
• Ability to work in a multicultural environment
• Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with a diverse group of clients at all levels of the organization
