Lead Career Coach

Jewish Vocational Service, a non-profit workforce development organization, seeks a full-time, experienced Lead Career Coach for our English for Advancement program. Under the direction of the Manager of Employment Services and the VP, the Lead Career Coach builds, strengthens and grows key partnerships, supervises and supports direct service staff, and oversees the English for Advancement program. The Lead Career Coach provides a full continuum of services including job search assistance, career coaching, and job development to designated job seekers with low to intermediate English-speaking abilities. This individual must have a strong knowledge of issues related to individuals with significant barriers to employment, as well as experience working with people from diverse backgrounds. The Lead Career Coach initiates and sustains collaborative working relationships with a variety of businesses in the greater Boston area. This individual must have flexibility to travel between various employer locations in order to serve participants applying for jobs in the greater Boston area. This is an off-site position split among Roxbury, Dorchester, and East Boston locations.

The right candidate will have:
• Minimum of 2 years of program/contract management and supervisory experience
• 1-3 years of experience in workforce development or related field
• Experience in curriculum development for the adult learner
• Ability to analyze course outcomes and propose means to achieve desired outcomes, if appropriate
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
• Strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills are required
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team is required
• Ability to work effectively with staff and clients from diverse cultural, socio-economic, ethnic and educational backgrounds is required
• Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with a diverse group of clients at all levels of the organization
• Demonstrated and effective presentation and facilitation skills are required
• Proficiency in a language spoken by immigrant participants preferred (Spanish, Arabic, Haitian Creole, or French)
• Knowledge of community resources in Greater Boston Area and web-based resources preferred

Work hours are generally 9-5 Monday through Friday (full-time 35 hours/week). Post-Employment Career Coach

JVS, a non-profit, non-sectarian agency, is seeking a Post-Employment Career Coach, responsible for providing career advancement services and ensuring long-term job retention. The Career Coach provides high quality career counseling, training, and job retention assistance to designated job seekers. With each participant, the Career Coach provides supportive services including updating resumes, interview preparation, job search assistance and job coaching as needed. The Career Coach initiates and sustains collaborative working relationships with a variety of businesses in the greater Boston area and beyond. This individual must have flexibility to travel between various cities in order to serve participants in the Greater Boston, North Shore and South Shore areas. This individual must have a strong knowledge of issues related to individuals with significant barriers to employment, as well as experience working with people from diverse backgrounds. The Career Coach is part of a larger JVS team that supports employment, training and education needs of clients and employers. This position is based at JVS’s main office and requires frequent travel to offsite locations.

The ideal candidate will have:

• 1-3 years of experience in workforce development or related field required
• 1-3 years of experience working with individuals with barriers to employment strongly desired
• Strong Microsoft Office Suite skills required
• Experience in marketing and outreach desired
• Proficiency in a language spoken by immigrant participants strongly preferred (Spanish, Arabic, Haitian Creole, or French)
• Familiarity with career ladders and professional advancement required
• Knowledge of community resources in Massachusetts and web-based resources preferred

Career Navigator

Jewish Vocational Service, a non-profit workforce development organization, seeks a full-time, experienced Career Navigator to recruit candidates for the Caring for our Seniors: A Certified Nursing Assistant Training Program and to provide case management and coaching services to African-American, Black and Latino populations who have been out of the formal workforce for several years. The Career Navigator will deliver high quality coaching, case management, and workshop facilitation. This position also involves working collaboratively with the program manager to support the outreach and assessment process to recruit and interview top quality candidates.

The right candidate will have:
• 2 years of experience in career coaching/case management/advocacy/adult education field with excellent knowledge of coaching tools and strategies required
• Experience working with low-income people of color, preferably in the greater Boston area, strongly preferred
• Understanding the gamut of Elder Care, including in-home care, Skilled Nursing facilities, assisted living facilities, rehabilitation centers, hospitals, and hospice desired
• Strong Microsoft Office Suite skills required
• Experience teaching adult learners and non-native English speakers preferred

ESOL Workplace Instructors - Hourly, Part-time, Full-time

JVS Boston, a workforce development organization, is seeking experienced ESOL Instructors to deliver customized ESOL courses for job seekers and entry level employees.  The ESOL Instructor will assist in assessing the training needs of participants and will provide the education needed to move individuals forward on their career pathways. The ESOL Instructor is part of a larger JVS team, all of whom are supporting the education, training, and employment needs of clients and employers.  Hourly, part-time, full-time, and lead positions are available.  

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

• 2-3 years of workplace or job readiness ESOL teaching experience preferred
• Wiliness to travel to MBTA accessible sites in the Greater Boston area
• Knowledge of adult learning theory
• Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of clients
• Experience in a workforce development role a plus

Jewish Vocational Service seeks a Career Coach Transitions To Work who provides outreach to Transitions to Work program graduates who are beyond their one-year service period and reengages them to provide career advancement services. Jewish Vocational Service, a non-profit workforce development organization, seeks a full-time, experienced Career Navigator with our Secure Jobs Partnership. Secure Jobs Partnership is a regional collaboration aimed at demonstrating a replicable model for connecting homeless families to career ladder employment and for improving coordination of services among the local housing/homelessness and workforce development systems. The Career Navigator is responsible for developing strong job leads, and providing high quality career counseling and job placement assistance to job seekers referred from our housing project partner. The Career Navigator initiates and sustains collaborative working relationships with a variety of businesses in the greater Boston area to create employment opportunities for clients. This individual must have a strong knowledge about issues related to individuals with significant barriers to employment.

The ideal candidate will have:
• 1-3 years of experience in workforce development or related field required.

CareerSolution Bilingual Career Navigator

Jewish Vocational Service (JVS) a non-profit workforce development organization, seeks a Bilingual Career Navigator for its CareerSolution Department to deliver innovative, customer-focused, and technology-driven career services to job seekers through its one-stop career center. The Career Navigator, in collaboration with the team, will assist job seekers from diverse backgrounds and levels of experience to conduct successful job searches and obtain employment. Specifically, the Career Navigator will issue, monitor, and case-manage training vouchers for eligible customers; develop relationships with area employers to understand staffing needs and place clients in jobs; provide 1:1 career coaching; lead high-quality workshops that incorporate best practices in adult education and training; and integrate and advance the use of technology in the job search and application processes. This position is located at 75 Federal Street, Boston, MA.

The ideal candidate will have
• Bilingual capacity (required, Spanish/English highly preferred)
• At least 4 years’ experience in the workforce development/career coaching/recruiting field, with excellent knowledge of career coaching tools and strategies
• Knowledge of Web-based job search resources and techniques
• Exceptional level of computer/technology proficiency, including ability to complete online job applications and maintain accurate records of services provided in databases
• Experience in marketing and outreach

ServSafe Instructor

Jewish Vocational Service, a non-profit workforce development organization, seeks a ServSafe Instructor. The JVS Business Services ServSafe Instructor’s charge is to implement classroom instruction that will prepare the employee for ServSafe food safety and protection certification exams so that they are able to grow within their organization. The Business Services ServSafe Instructor is part of a larger JVS team, all of whom are supporting the education, training, and employment needs of clients and employers. The ServSafe Instructor works collaboratively with each member of the Business Services team to assist students in obtaining the skills needed to successfully pass their food safety and protection-related exams and do their current jobs, as well as to upgrade their skills in order to move up in their career. Courses are delivered to working adults at JVS or at various employer sites.

Under the direction of the Business Services Program Manager, the ServSafe Instructor uses the curriculum and daily lesson plans provided for food safety and protection training programs, delivers training to participants, proctors the exams, tracks outcomes, creates documents for submission to their supervisor, and meets with their supervisor before and after each training session.

The ideal candidate will have:
• BS or BA in Education or related field
• Spanish language skills required
• One or more years of teaching or training experience with adults preferred
• One or more years of restaurant experience preferred

All Business Services ServSafe Instructors will be teaching classes either at JVS or on site at area employers. Most sites are accessible by T, with additional contracts in the Greater Boston Area. Community Outreach Specialist

JVS, a non-profit, non-sectarian work force development organization, seeks a full-time, experienced Community Outreach Specialist under the direction of the Project Liaison of Pay for Success, this individual conducts outreach and recruitment for the English for Advancement (EFA) program by maintaining collaborative relationships with community partners, government agencies, and other entities to identify and enroll eligible students. As a member of the EFA Team, this individual will also conduct regular, direct student outreach, to include attending community meetings, festivals and faith-based events. Jewish Vocational Service (JVS) a non-profit workforce development organization, seeks a Program Associate in Skills Training to aid the team in various areas throughout the day.The position comprises the following distinct elements:

Lunch Bunch Coordinator:  During lunchtime, sit with limited English speakers and encourage them to make small talk about their weekends, families, home countries, etc. to prepare them for this experience in the workplace.  Explain relevant boundaries around sharing in the workplace. Introduce relevant vocabulary and correct grammar mistakes.  Enforce English-only workplace expectations. Create and implement games and activities that focus on improving students’ English skills. Provide individualized attention to students requesting and showing signs of needing additional assistance (i.e. class work, homework, study skills).

Assistant Computer and ESOL Instructor: Assist and teach limited English speakers basic computer skills, such as keyboarding, identifying windows and the task bar, and creating documents. Create e-mail accounts and teach students how to send e-mail attachments. Demonstrate basic Internet searching and the skills needed to complete an online job application. Develop exercises and activities to teach students to create a basic spreadsheet using Excel with a simple formula. As a VESL speaking and listening activities leader, lead class in pronunciation, reading, and comprehension exercises. 

Job Search Club Coordinator:  Assist students in the job application process by searching job postings for relevant positions, writing resumes and cover letters and reviewing for accuracy.  Assist students in completing online and written job applications. Practice interview questions and test-taking strategies, and coach students in making follow-up phone calls to employers. Contact graduates to collect and enter employment data into data system and communicate to team members. Prepare students for CNA state exam by familiarizing them with the clinical skills required and creating and leading games and activities. Assist and answer questions as students demonstrate skills. Find, compile, and distribute sample CNA state exam practice questions. 

JTA Administrative Support: Support Coalition by updating membership database and making follow-up phone calls.
