Yoldie came to Boston from Haiti in 2012, along with her two young daughters. Upon arrival, they initially stayed with family, but then struggled with housing. Yoldie heard about JVS programs through her social worker, but she did not initially meet program requirements of education level and language skills. She worked hard to complete her high school equivalency and improve her English, and that determination came with her to JVS.
Yoldie entered the MassLEAP (Learning, Employment and Asset Program) program in 2015, which brought her to JVS, setting goals to complete job training and financial coaching. She was drawn to JVS's 12-week Pharmacy Technician training program and was accepted into the August 2015 cycle. Yoldie excelled in her classes and was the student speaker for her graduation. Within weeks of graduating, she was nationally certified as a Pharmacy Technician and is currently employed full time at the Walgreens.
At JVS, Yoldie worked with a financial coach to develop a strong budget, attended Financial Empowerment workshops, and built her credit score. She has a goal of purchasing her first home upon successful completion of MassLEAP in 2019. In addition, she plans to continue her education and become a Pharmacist. Yoldie has spoken to groups as a housing advocate, and currently lives in Revere with her family.
